About UnclaimedCremains.org
Our Mission
UnclaimedCremains.org is a free, public service created to help families locate the cremated remains of their loved ones. Across the United States, thousands of cremated remains sit unclaimed in funeral homes — sometimes for years or even decades.
We believe every person deserves to be remembered, and every family deserves the chance to bring their loved ones home. This registry exists to bridge that gap.
How It Works
Funeral Homes Submit
Funeral homes submit records of unclaimed cremated remains through our secure API.
Families Search
Anyone can search our registry for free using names, locations, or other identifying information.
Reunification
When a match is found, we facilitate the connection between the family and the funeral home.
Privacy & Security
We take privacy seriously. Only limited information is displayed publicly:
- Name and known aliases
- Year of birth and year of death (not full dates)
- Gender and ethnicity
- Funeral home name and location
- Last known city and state
Sensitive information such as Social Security numbers, full dates of birth, and detailed addresses are never collected or displayed.
For Funeral Homes & Organizations
If your funeral home has unclaimed cremated remains and you'd like to submit records to our registry, we offer a free REST API for data submission.
To get started:
- Create a free account
- Wait for account approval (typically 1-2 business days)
- Generate your API keys from your account dashboard
- Use our REST API to submit, update, or remove records
